Enviromental Finance: Finance in Motion wins IMPACT Award 2020 for Large Asset Manager of the Year
Frankfurt/Main (16.9.20) – Leading sustainable investment magazine Environmental Finance announced the winners today of its inaugural IMPACT Awards 2020. Frankfurt-based impact asset manager Finance in Motion was named Asset Manager of the Year in the category “large,” for those whose impact investments total USD 500 million and above. After reviewing candidates for the title from around the world, the international panel of independent industry experts found that Finance in Motion had made especially significant contributions to people and planet while advancing the impact investing market.
Engaged exclusively in impact investing since its founding in 2009, Finance in Motion currently advises or manages five funds, with multiple sub-funds, that address climate change, strengthen biodiversity conservation, foster the sustainable use of natural resources, improve livelihoods, and promote economic opportunities for entrepreneurs and homeowners. Achievements by the end of 2019 included fostering environmental impacts and economic development by financing activities that contributed to the sustainable management of over 285,000 hectares of land; savings of 870,000 tons of CO2 on an annual basis; and financing more than 1,2 million loans to small businesses and households; supporting more than 1 million jobs.
The funds are active solely in emerging markets, served by 15 local Finance in Motion offices in Southeast Europe, the Caucasus, Latin America, the Middle East, North Africa, and sub-Saharan Africa. This on-the-ground presence enables the funds to channel investments right where they are needed for maximum impact; what is more, these investments are supplemented with technical support – such as capacity building, industry knowledge exchange, research and development, training on sustainable financial management and business development, and more – provided to investees and market players in order to anchor and amplify positive impact.
Finance in Motion Managing Director Sylvia Wisniwski said: “We are delighted to have been recognized for this prestigious award, and it is an honor to see our work acknowledged by a jury of peers. Worldwide interest in impact investing is growing, and we hope that initiatives like this one help increase investors’ awareness and information about the manifold opportunities available for them to make their money make a difference for people and planet.”
